My 3 Month Experience with Dermarolling

As many of you know, I’m a get that glow kind of girl. & while I love the idea of 100% natural clean beauty, I also love the magic of science! Truth be told, I am obsessed with a good facial but getting those on the reg is a serious expense (bye bye dollars). So in my quest for finding an at home solution, I stumbled upon Dermaroller®. Let me tell you a bit about why this product sparked my interest! This superior skin care system is designed to reduce wrinkles and fine lines, improve skin pigmentation and texture, and smooth and plump crepey skin …. SIGN ME UP!

By no means is this technique new, but it sure has gained popularity thanks to celebrity facialists and those seeking a more natural alternative to injectables.  If any of you have googled micro-needling you’ll be familiar with this non-invasive rejuvenation treatment that helps to promote the production of collagen (a naturally occurring protein found in the body that steadily decreases as we age)! I know what you’re thinking … you’re not that old. True! But, prevention is KEY & who wouldn’t want to explore a collagen-stimulating treatment that they can fit in around their schedule with NO downtime?! Seems like a no brainer!

Home Care Roller by Dermaroller® (for the face, neck & décolletage) | Treatment with Home Care Roller by Dermaroller® has an affect on many active skin layers of the Epidermis, and contributes to the generation of collagen types 6 and 7 which are found in the connective tissue between the Epidermis and Dermis. Safely and easily reduce wrinkles, improve hydration, and maximize absorption of the beneficial ingredients in the Dermaroller® Home Care Line. Also removes dead skin cells and can reduce blackheads and pore size. Roll up to 3 times a week for up to one year with this roller.

Lipopeptide with Vitamin A | This night cream is formulated with peptides in combination with non allergic Retinyl Palmitate (vitamin A) to stimulate the cellular matrix, new collagen, and fibronectine.  It reduces irritation and inflammation, while hydrating. Skin becomes more luminous while new collagen firms the skin and gives it a more youthful elasticity.

Hyaluronic Acid | Hyaluronic Acid by Dermaroller® is perfectly formulated to support the natural moisture of the skin. It binds with water that fills spaces between collagen fibres, keeping them resilient and elastic, while stimulating the proliferation of collagen and elastin. Reduce wrinkles and expect younger looking skin — smoother, brighter, fresher, and with renewed volume and all-day moisture.

Moisturizer ACE with Vitamins A, C & E | This day cream moisturizes while reducing trans-epidermal water loss, supporting your skin to retain it’s own natural moisture. After rolling, it infuses your skin with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that are essential in promoting fast and effective skin-cell proliferation. It contains natural ingredients, such as almond oil, safflower oil and jojoba, as well as hyaluronic acid. These ingredients protect the skin’s barrier and keep up the skin’s moisture levels.

The result? Your skin appears enriched and deeply hydrated, strong and firm, smooth and luminous! With continued use as part of the home care system, you will visibly reduce the signs of aging.

  • For best results, follow this routine every other evening. Do not roll every night.

  • Stop using the Home Care Roller by Dermaroller® 3 days before your next professional (in-clinic) Dermaroller® treatment.

Ok, you know how people get addicted to sensations (i think that’s a thing…), well I got addicted (in a good way) to the feeling of the little pricks on the roller which create a series of tiny (you can’t even see them) micro-injuries to the skin to promote collagen production!

Something you’re probably wondering, does it hurt? NO! Well not for me at least. Yes, you are continually rolling your face with a bunch of tiny needles that perforate your skin but it doesn’t hurt, rather, I felt that it tingled, quite pleasantly. Perhaps there are more sensitive areas to roll than others (ie. around the temples & bridge of the nose) but that’s likely because the skin is thinner and more fragile in those areas. Nevertheless, I rolled on in various motions, making M’s, X’s, rolling horizontally, vertically & diagonally (while multi-tasking & listening to podcasts). After you’ve rolled the epidermis you may notice that your face becomes slightly red … but trust me, it doesn’t last long & what’s amazing is that you don’t have to give up makeup for X number of days, nor do you have to abstain from sweating! Up next, Hyaluronic Acid & Lipopeptide with Vitamin A. That’s it that’s all! I love me a simple yet effective skin care routine!

What did I notice in the morning? Well for starters there was no lasting redness, & my skin looked more even, soft & glow-y (all good things if you ask me)! But before I applied my very basic makeup routine I applied the Moisturizer ACE (which my face sucked right up) & got on with my day!

My skin tends to be dry and so I am pretty conscious of how products affect the texture of it. After rolling I definitely felt that my skin was craving some hydration, & I was quite happy with the Lipopeptide solution. Apart from the products tested, I like how I was able to work in some of my other favourite hydrating products.

One thing that some people may struggle with (if you don’t thrive on routine), is the consistency of rolling three days a week… Honestly though it’s worth it, and common, we all have 5 minutes to spare (especially at the expense of our body’s largest organ)!

I know that it can be difficult when it comes to navigating the various trends & trying to decipher which is actually worth it … If you’re on the fence start with a roller and see how your skin responds to the needles. I found that this at home treatment did a pretty good job of mimicking other (more expensive) in-office micro needling treatments.

But remember, not every treatment works for every skin type. While my skin responded well to micro needling, if you have cystic acne or extremely sensitive skin, this may not be right for you! Always consult with a medical professional if you are unsure of a product or treatment.

There's a difference between professional Collagen Induction Therapy treatment vs. using a home roller. Devices that perform Collagen Induction Therapy at home are very unsafe as not all devices are created equal and can seriously damage the skin (which is why the Home Care Roller by Dermaroller® only has 0.2 mm needles to complement professional CIT and maximize the absorption of nutrient-rich ingredients into the skin rather than actually performing CIT).
